Kaizer Chiefs take on University of Pretoria in the quarterfinals of this year’s MTN8 and will be hoping to claim their first win over Tuks.
The two sides have only met three times in the past, and surprisingly it is Steve Barker’s side that currently hold the upper-hand, having won two of the encounters.Story: 2013/14 MTN8 Launched
With Tuks having spent the majority of their existence outside of South Africa’s top-flight, there have been limited opportunities for the clubs to lock horns, however their first meeting came in 2009 during the Nedbank Cup.
On that occasion Barker’s side won 4-3 after a late goal from Phenyo Mongalo, that saw the University advance to the next round of the tournament.
However, last year saw the two sides take each other on in league competition, following Tuks’ promotion from the NFD, although neither game will be one that Chiefs care to remember.
The first of the two finished 1-1, with Mame Niang cancelling out George Lebese’s opener, while the second ended 1-0 to Tuks as they secured their place in the MTN8 with a shock victory on the last day of the 2012/13 season.
