MTN Blackberry Absolute package revealed Empty MTN Blackberry Absolute package revealed

Post by Nameless Mon Feb 11, 2013 9:55 pm

MTN plans to launch a new BlackBerry Absolute service as a replacement to their current uncapped BlackBerry BIS product

MTN BlackBerry customers will no longer be able to buy the uncapped BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) package from 1 March 2013. It will be replaced by a new capped service called “BlackBerry Absolute”. This is according to an MTN document dated 5 February 2013.

According to the document, the new MTN “BlackBerry Absolute” service plan, which will also cost R59 per month, comes with a 200MB “fair use” limit. An out of bundle rate of R0.65 per MB will apply when the 200MB limit is reached.

“The current BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) which offers users uncapped usage on the blackberry.net APN will become legacy,” the document states. “This is in line with the MTN Smartphone strategy and the shift in focus from uncapped to tiered capped services.”

The letter goes on to say that the Blackberry Absolute service plan can now be packaged with MTN Anytime, MTN OffPeak, MTN Procall, and MTN Internet packages, including their TopUp variants. This service will be available to all PayAsYouGo plans as well.

According to the document, MTN customers will be able to load an Internet bundle once the BlackBerry tiered service “fair usage” is depleted.

MTN was contacted for comment, but said that no official statement has been released and therefore the new BlackBerry package should only be seen as speculation at this stage.
